A relatively recent but important part of Sandbach’s long history is ‘TruckTown’ – a name that was given to Sandbach because it was the home of two major truck manufacturers – Foden’s (est. 1856), ERF (est. 1933) and Saxon specialist Vehicles (est. 1984). These were huge employers in the area at their peak and Sandbach is still the home of the famous Foden’s Brass Band.
The Sandbach Transport Festival committee want to keep the name alive by reinventing Sandbach’s trucking heritage through ‘TruckTown Arts Festival’. The committee also want the event to be family oriented, not all children and Mums are interested in Trucks and all other exciting automobile stuff, we have added a new dimension with performing arts. The aim is to enhance the event and not to detract from the core Transport Festival. All in all a fun filled weekend soaked in history with a family feel and all for free.
TruckTown Arts Festival is run by SpareParts festival, which was originally developed in Fleetwood and is funded through Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring programme, bringing together the best of transport themed arts from around the world.
The Artistic Director at SpareParts Festival, said: “We’re delighted to bring SpareParts to a whole new audience in Sandbach.
“The festival features a whole host of fantastic performances that we’re sure audiences will love and that blend beautifully with the existing Sandbach Transport Festival.”
Arts in the Park by SpareParts 2019
Calling all Sandbach Community Groups - Sandbach Transport Festival & SpareParts Festival are looking for groups to perform at this years event! This year we will have a designated performance space on Sandbach Park. So if you lead or take part part in a local choir, band, drama or dance group and would like to showcase your talents, please get in touch.
We can also provide groups with some artistic support, so maybe you are in a group that would like to learn a new skill to then perform at the festival. We could provide an artist to help you write a new song or poem, create a dance or learn some BMX tricks. It has to link in with our theme of travel and transport and takes place on Sunday 14th April. If you would like more information please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
