A relatively recent but important part of Sandbach’s long history is ‘TruckTown’ – a name that was given to Sandbach because it was the home of two major truck manufacturers – Foden’s (est. 1856), ERF (est. 1933) and Saxon specialist Vehicles (est. 1984). These were huge employers in the area at their peak and Sandbach is still the home of the famous Foden’s Brass Band.
The Sandbach Transport Festival committee want to keep the name alive by reinventing Sandbach’s trucking heritage through ‘TruckTown Arts Festival’. The committee also want the event to be family oriented, not all children and Mums are interested in Trucks and all other exciting automobile stuff, we have added a new dimension with performing arts. The aim is to enhance the event and not to detract from the core Transport Festival. All in all a fun filled weekend soaked in history with a family feel and all for free.
SpareParts, the UK’s first festival of art, performance and spectacle, dedicated to transport, travel and motion, is on tour in 2019 - landing at Sandbach Transport Festival, trAction Crewe, Accelerate Oldham and Fleetwood Festival of Transport.
